The ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) has presented a committee report to the President for the restructuring of Nigeria.
The report which has since been endorsed by President Muhammadu Buhari was drafted by APC committee led by the Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir el-Rufai and presented on the evening of Wednesday 10th July 2019.
This information was disclosed to State House correspondents by the former Governor of Ogun State and a Chieftain of the APC, Aremo Olusegun Osoba after a closed-door meeting with the President at the Aso Rock Villa, Abuja.
He appealed to those agitating for restructuring Nigeria especially statesmen and other activists of the country, to be patient with the President and the APC, as legislative steps would be taken to get the National Assembly to work on the relevant aspects of the report.
Chief Osoba, an Ace Journalist, was at the State House to present his book titled “Battle lines: Adventures in Journalism and Politics” to the President. Chief Osoba said that the ruling APC’s manifesto and blueprint contain restructuring as devolution of powers from the Federal Government to States.
According to him, APC has moved from just having the manifesto to the level of the caucus that has deliberated these matters of restructuring, true federalism and devolutions of power and the President formed part of this caucus, hence, endorsed the outcome. I want Nigerians to please, give us time. I hope and pray that at the right time, the government or the party would send that report to the National Assembly for debate.
Restructuring lies with National Assembly and not on the President since this is not a military president that can change anything by decree. Sovereignty in Nigeria now is vested in the National Assembly.
Those agitating for the sovereign national conference must go through the National Assembly, hence the President’s resolved to send it to the NASS. This also applies in the case of the agitation for a referendum!
