APC Deputy Scribe Fuanter Resigns as Yilwatda Takes Over as Party Chairman

In the wee hours of Thursday, Festus Fuanter, the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) deputy national secretary, formally resigned.
Due to the rise of Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the party’s recently chosen National Chairman and a native of the Plateau state, Fuanter resigned.
In line with the ruling party’s statute, which prohibits two national officers from hailing from the same state, the resignation was made.

The stakeholders had already chosen Abdulkarim Abubakar Kana (SAN) as the party’s national legal adviser at the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.

The All Progressives Congress (APC)’s immediate-past National Chairman, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, has received praise from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his achievements to the party, particularly the creation of the Progressive Institute.

Speaking Thursday at the APC National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja, Tinubu declared his intention to keep Ganduje on as a consultant to the incoming national leadership and commended his dedication to the party’s principles.

He was given a task by me that involved creating a Progressive Institute. In order to revitalize it, the National Secretary will collaborate with the chairman. We can still hire him [Ganduje] as a consultant to help the new chairman with that,” the President stated.

The dates of the States, Local Government, and Ward congresses were moved to December by President Tinubu in a calculated move to accommodate a flood of anticipated defectors.

The APC’s larger realignment attempts to strengthen its ranks ahead of the general elections in 2027, particularly in light of new opposition groupings, are often interpreted as including this delay.

Professor Nentawe Goshwe Yilwatda, the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development, was formally introduced as the new APC National Chairman, which was said to be the high point of the NEC meeting.

The Progressive Governors’ Forum chairman, Governor Hope Uzodimma, proposed Yilwatda, and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas seconded the motion.
