Obinna Simon, also known as MC Tagwaye, is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign team for the 2023 elections. She has defected from the ruling party to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
When asked why he quit the APC, Simon stated that he did so because the party did not fulfill its original principles and did not provide a suitable system of rewards for devoted members.
“This decisive move is born out of my deep-seated conviction that the APC has deviated from its original ideals,” the former APC chieftain said in a statement issued on Friday. The party’s leadership structure is controlled by a small number of powerful individuals who ignore the opinions and goals of the majority, and its reward system does not recognize loyalty.
According to reports, he also denounced the internal democracy of the ruling party, saying that it has been “egregiously compromised” and that a small number of “power brokers” make decisions, excluding the majority.
Simon, who left the APC for the Social Democratic Party (SDP), praised the party’s dedication to young participation, internal democracy, accountability, and openness, calling it a “beacon of hope.”

“I have boldly decided to leave the APC and join the SDP, a party that genuinely represents the interests of the people,” he added. I invite all Nigerians who agree with my vision to come along. By working together, we can create a brighter future for our wonderful country, our children, and ourselves.
A new political journey in the SDP began when renowned comedian and businessman MC Tagwaye publicly filed his resignation to his APC ward chairman.
