APC Will Lose Kogi in 2027 Without Yahaya Bello’s Influence – Commissioner Warns

The All Progressives Congress (APC) may lose Kogi State in the 2027 general elections if President Bola Tinubu ignores former Governor Yahaya Bello, according to Commissioner for Solid Minerals Bashir Gegu.

Gegu issued the threat during a Kogi Local Council political gathering.

He maintained that Bello continues to be the mastermind behind the state’s current political system and a key player in the ruling party’s sustained hegemony.

The commissioner was reported in the address, which he posted on Facebook, as saying, “APC cannot win Kogi State if former Governor Yahaya Bello is not carried along.” That is the simple reality.

He denied social media’s criticism of a recent gathering in Lokoja, saying it was a statement of appreciation for Tinubu’s and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s leadership rather than a power struggle.

“The rally was a show of appreciation, not a protest,” Gegu continued. But let’s be clear: the APC cannot win in Kogi without Yahaya Bello.

The commissioner said that Bello’s impact still extends to every district and acknowledged that he laid the foundation for political stability and federal prominence in the state.
