Army Chief Attahiru paid ultimate price for peace and security — Buhari
PRESIDENT Buhari has confirmed the death of Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Attahiru Ibrahim.
In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, this night, the president said the late COAS and others who died paid the ultimate price for peace and security.
Attahiru died in a military Beachcraft 350 plane crash at the Kaduna International Airport today.
The ill-fated aircraft crashed at the airport’s runway about 6 pm, claiming all eight souls onboard.
In reaction, Buhari said he is saddened by their sorrowful demise.
“President Muhammadu Buhari is deeply saddened over the air crash that claimed the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Attahiru, and other military officers,” the statement said.
“The President condoles with families of the deceased, the military, and Nigerians in general, describing them as “heroes who paid the ultimate price for peace and security in the land.”
While praying that God receives the souls of the patriots, the President says the crash “is one mortal blow to our underbelly, at a time our armed forces are poised to end the security challenges facing the country.”
The President, however, pledged that the departed would not die in vain.
