Nigerian table tennis icon Quadri Aruna can’t take in his stride World Table Tennis’ penalties for failing to participate in two recent tournaments.
In a post on his social media handles on Thursday, the Fakel-Gazprom Orenburg player accused WTT of clamping down on players unnecessarily, urging other players to support his cause.
“Another date changes, and players have no right to withdraw from these events due to player club engagements,” Aruna, who hard earlier accused WTT of racism, stated on his Facebook handle.
“Only WTT has the right to change. The end result is a ranking penalty if you choose to play with your club and not their events due to their own date changes. Totally unacceptable. I know all of you players are in my support, and I am challenging you all now to come out publicly and talk against these dictators before it’s too late for our sport. It’s really right now, not after the Olympics.
“No matter what, nobody deserves to die in silence.”
Aruna earlier alleged racism against WTT after the body slammed him with two rankings and monetary penalties in two months for not participating in the World Championships and the WTT Championship in Korea earlier this year.
The penalties saw the Olympian concede pole position in the African rankings to Egyptian rival Omar Assar, who moved five places to occupy the 17th spot in the world, two spots above Quadri in the 2024 Week 12 Ranking released by ITTF in March.
