Baba-Ahmed Urges Tinubu to Step Down From 2027 Race, Says ‘You’ve Achieved Your Presidential Ambition

A former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, has bemoaned that despite the genius of President Bola Tinubu, he has failed to fix the challenges in the nation.

In an appearance with Channels Television’s “Sunday Politics,” Baba-Ahmed said that Tinubu ought to drop his ambition for reelection and select a younger candidate from within his party.

Baba-Ahmed, who quit as special adviser on political matters in the office of the vice president in April, claimed that Tinubu has failed to display the passion to fix the country.

He said, “I’m sorry, but I have to say this again. “I wish President Tinubu would not run again in 2027” was one of the things I said to many people when I left his administration.

He first stated that he wanted to be president, and he has already succeeded in doing so. After saying, “emi lokan,” he was given his turn. But I don’t think he has run the country properly.

“The Tinubu we once knew, the one with all this cunning knowledge for plotting, hasn’t demonstrated the same desire to make things better.

“He ought to identify a younger, healthier, more focused candidate within his party to replace him.

He has all the power he needs, but he is not in charge of the nation. If he can lead this administration, he can persuade all of these PDP members to join him.

“Let’s go back to this Trump thing, I didn’t see a president who should respond to an emergency or a challenge in this manner, with the manner and spirit that he should. I didn’t observe it. And it goes beyond this particular problem.

“The truth is that Nigeria has deteriorated so badly that we cannot continue to run things as if they’re normal.”
