Bayelsa Governor’s Defection Welcomed by APC – Party Chieftain Backs Move

A prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Pastor Reuben Wilson, has expressed the party’s readiness to welcome Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, should he decide to cross over from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Pastor Wilson, who also leads the Pastor Reuben Initiative for Good Leadership and Accountability (PRIFGLA), described the anticipated defection as a “strategic move” that would accelerate Bayelsa’s access to federal government interventions and infrastructure development.

Drawing parallels with the political transition in Akwa Ibom State, Wilson noted that the governor’s shift to the APC had attracted high-profile projects, including the much-anticipated deep seaport. He maintained that a similar realignment in Bayelsa could fast-track the federal government’s involvement in the Agge seaport project, ultimately conserving state funds and boosting development.

Wilson also took a swipe at emerging opposition coalitions aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in 2027. He labeled such efforts as futile and urged aggrieved politicians to align with the current administration for national progress.

“The APC is stronger than ever, and with Governor Diri’s potential defection, we’ll establish a firmer presence in Bayelsa State. This will greatly improve our prospects for a decisive victory in the next general election,” Wilson said.

He affirmed his commitment to mobilizing grassroots support for the APC, vowing that Tinubu’s 2027 tally would surpass the figures recorded in 2023.
