Bode George, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain and member of its Board of Trustees, has denied claims that Samuel Anyanwu’s reinstatement as the party’s National Secretary shows Nyesom Wike’s supremacy in the opposition party.
George, speaking with Punch on Wednesday, insisted that the decision to acknowledge Anyanwu was done in the best interests of the party and was not influenced by any particular individual.
When asked if the action meant the PDP had succumbed to Wike, George replied, “Absolutely not!”
He said, “Let us meet at the NEC. When the NEC meets, you’ll find out who won and who lost.
George highlighted that all unresolved concerns concerning the office of National Secretary will be resolved at the 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on June 30, 2025.
He stated, “Whatever decision is made at the NEC is final.” The issue of Anyanwu’s reinstatement as PDP National Secretary has several implications, for reasons best understood within the party. As an elder, I am pleading with both sides, particularly those who are quite angry. They should calm down. “When we meet, we will resolve our internal issues.”
Taking a veiled shot at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), the former PDP Deputy National Chairman emphasized that no single individual can take over the PDP organization.

He stated, “Our party is not like the APC, which is owned by a person. We beg both sides to give peace a chance. We will handle this, but I must emphasize that no one can be bigger than our party.”
George used a Yoruba proverb to make his argument, adding, “There is a saying in Yoruba land that when you prostrate for a dwarf, you will still be taller than the dwarf when you get up.”
George advised all party members to cease viewing developments as a win-or-lose situation, emphasizing that the PDP must reposition itself ahead of the 2027 national elections.
He continued, “There is nothing lasting in this world. Let us not assign this event (Anyanwu’s return) to a winner or loser.
“Nigerians are looking forward to better governance in 2027, and we need to settle ourselves to make a presentation to the people.”
