The popular pastor of the Church of Christ in Nations, Luka Levong, was killed in the early hours of Friday, January 5, 2024, in Geidam, Yobe State, by suspected members of the terrorist organization Boko Haram, purportedly carrying out its first significant attack of the year.
According to locals who spoke with Channels TV on Friday, the terrorists attacked the region at around two in the morning. The church treasurer, Maina Abdullahi, was also reported to have died as a result of the attack.
Residents said that during their onslaught, the attackers also set fire to a church and many homes. Corpses, however, have been transported to the Geidam Specialist Hospital.
Dungus Abdulkarim, the public relations officer for Yobe State Police, told our correspondent that he was unable to provide specific information regarding the incident.
“The Nigerian military should be contacted as Geidam is a frontline area in the war against insurgency,” he declared.
It was not possible to get Onyema Nwachukwu, the spokesperson for the Nigerian Army, to respond.
Remember that Geidam has had over 150,000 people displaced and is a hotspot in the war against insurgency. In addition, Boko Haram is a militant group with its headquarters in northeastern Nigeria. Since its founding, the group is thought to have killed 50,000 people and displaced over 2.5 million more.
