Early on Wednesday morning, troops from Operation Hadin Kai’s Maritime Component stopped suspected Boko Haram terrorists from trying to infiltrate the Naval Base Lake Chad.
According to reports, the base is situated in Borno State’s Kukawa Local Government Area in Fish Dam, Baga.
Zagazola Makama was informed by intelligence sources that the insurgents began the attack at around one in the morning.
They targeted the recently purchased swamp boggeys that the Borno State Government had recently acquired for the purpose of clearing waterways in the Lake Chad area.
An intense gunfight broke out between the attackers and the naval forces as a result of the attempted sabotage.

Quickly, reinforcement troops were sent to the site from a neighboring outpost in Baga.
Despite the base’s resistance to the intrusion, only minor damage was noted. According to one of the sources, “some personnel were injured during the engagement, and an ambulance and two other vehicles were destroyed.”
According to reports, the gunfire lasted more than two hours, causing the terrorists to flee without reaching the Swamp Boggeys, which were still intact.
The Air Component Command (ACC) has initiated follow-up aircraft operations to locate and eliminate the escaping rebels along the Lake Chad waterways as of the time this report was filed.
According to military officials, more information is being gathered and will be released as events unfold.
