The military parade that was supposed to mark the 26th Democracy Day on Thursday, June 12, 2025, has been canceled by the Federal Government.
The traditional Democracy Day parade that has been held in the past will not take place this year as President Bola Tinubu will give a national speech at 7 am on Thursday, according to information given by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on the event.
As an alternative, at noon, President Tinubu will take part in a special joint session of the National Assembly.

It is expected that this joint session will cover the State of the Nation, Nigeria’s democratic experience, and fresh calls for change and national unity.

There will be a public talk later that day at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja.
Under the subject “Consolidating on the Gains of Nigeria’s Democracy: Necessity of Enduring Reforms,” government officials, political leaders, and civil society stakeholders are expected to convene at this event to reflect on the nation’s democratic journey.

The public was encouraged to watch the broadcast and participate in the national conversation to support democratic changes and institutions, the statement said.
