Breaking: Fresh Tension Rocks PDP Headquarters As Wike’s Camp Attempts To Seize Secretariat

Fresh tension gripped the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja on Monday after loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, made an assertive move to take over the party’s secretariat at Wadata Plaza.

The crisis took a dramatic turn as the Wike-led bloc announced Muhammed Abdulrahman as Acting National Chairman, claiming the decision followed the suspension of Umar Damagum and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC).

This action was reportedly a countermeasure to the earlier suspension of National Secretary Samuel Anyanwu and other Wike loyalists by the Damagum-led faction.

Speaking at a press conference before heading to Wadata Plaza, Abdulrahman said his appointment was a divine responsibility to “restore and rebuild” the PDP.

“Our party has suffered from internal divisions and leadership failures. We must bring everyone together, revive our structures, and make the PDP strong again,” he stated.

He pledged to lead reconciliation efforts and reposition the opposition party for national relevance, emphasizing unity and discipline as his top priorities.

Shortly after his remarks, Abdulrahman’s supporters stormed the PDP secretariat, chanting solidarity songs as they attempted to assume control of the facility.

Police Intervene To Prevent Chaos

Tension heightened when supporters loyal to Umar Damagum confronted the Wike group, prompting the deployment of armed police officers to forestall violence.

Security sources confirmed that at least 10 Hilux patrol vans from the Nigeria Police Force were stationed around the premises to maintain calm and prevent clashes between the rival factions.
