The Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Acting National Chairman is May Agbamuche.
According to reports, during a meeting with resident electoral commissioners at INEC headquarters on Tuesday in Abuja, Professor Mahmood Yakubu gave Agbamuche the reins.
Agbamuche is acknowledged as the National Commissioner with the longest tenure in the electoral body.
During his statement, Professor Mahmood encouraged the commission’s directors and commissioners to give Agbamuche their entire support until a permanent chairman was chosen.
Then-President Muhammadu Buhari named Mahmood to the position on October 21, 2015, replacing Amina Zakari as acting chairman.
After serving two 10-year terms, Professor Yakubu will step down as INEC chairman in November 2025.
Details will be provided later.
