After a bloody battle with bandits, soldiers from the Nigerian Army’s 12 Brigade, Lokoja, successfully freed two abducted victims and retrieved a N3.8 million ransom meant for their release.
Brigade Spokesperson Lt. Hassan Abdullahi said in a statement on Monday that the rescue effort happened on Sunday in Achigili Forest along the Itobe–Adumu–Ejule road.
On November 2, troops stationed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Oguma received reliable information about a planned ransom drop, which sparked the start of the operation. In response to the information, a patrol was quickly dispatched to the woodland to apprehend the offenders.
The bandits opened fire on the troops while they were traveling. The soldiers engaged the offenders with superior force by returning fire. The kidnappers were forced to run into the jungle with gunshot wounds after abandoning the two victims—a male and a female—as well as the money.
After being rescued, the victims were debriefed and placed in secure custody right away. They were successfully given back the N3.8 million that had been retrieved.
Lt. Abdullahi urged the people to keep supplying timely and reliable information to support security operations against criminal groups in the state and reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s unshakable commitment to protecting lives and property.
