The Labour Party has taken a dramatic step by indefinitely suspending six senior people, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe.
According to reports, the move comes amid accusations of anti-party conduct.
The suspension also affects Victor Afam Ogene, Amobi Ogah, and Seyi Sowumi. The party’s National Executive Council (NEC) approved the move after a disciplinary panel made recommendations earlier this month.
The declaration was made in an official statement issued Wednesday by Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the party’s National Secretary.
According to the paper, the suspension is effective immediately and prevents the persons from engaging in any Labour Party-related activities.
The statement reads: “Recall that last Friday, May 2, 2025, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Labour Party established a Five-Man Disciplinary Committee, led by the Deputy National Chairman, Dr.Ayo Olorunfemi, Alhaji Umar Farouk Ibrahim, the National Secretary, and three others, to investigate Abia State Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, and any other party members over allegations of anti-party activities.
“The Disciplinary Committee completed their duty and presented their report to the party leadership. The party’s National Executive met today, May 7th, 2025, and after extensive consideration in accordance with the powers granted to it by the Party Constitution, ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s recommendations.
“As a result, the following party members have been indefinitely and immediately suspended from the party and all of its activities. Dr. Alex Otti; Senator Ireti Kingibe; Senator Darlington Nwokocha; Hon. Victor Afam Ogene; Hon. Amobi Ogah; and Hon. Seyi Sowunmi.

The Labour Party confirmed why Nenadi Usman was not sanctioned, stating that she is not a formal member but is linked with their 2023 presidential campaign.
“We are aware that she is a member of the Obedient Support organization, which has worked and continues to work for the party’s 2023 presidential candidate. We will not penalize her because she is not a party member,” the statement stated.
In a further jab, the party accused Usman of lacking credibility to speak against corruption, citing suspected contacts with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and ownership of several assets.
“She should also tell Nigerians how she acquired her Kaduna radio station, all of her properties in Nigeria and abroad, and her Cameroonian companies, including her plantations. Nenadi Usman lacks the moral competence to launch any investigation or even discuss corruption,” it stated.
Reiterating its political direction, the Labour Party underlined its independence ahead of the 2027 elections, avoiding merger talks or coalitions.
“Labour Party intends to prosecute the 2027 general election as stand alone party and no further discussion will be entertained on this matter,” according to the statement.
