As part of his efforts to promote peace and resolve the ongoing crisis that is impacting communities in Benue State, President Bola Tinubu is scheduled to visit the state on Wednesday, June 18, 2025.
Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu’s Special Advisor on Information and Strategy, announced in a statement on Monday that the President has postponed his intended official visit to Kaduna State because of the Benue Visit.
According to a report, Tinubu will meet with all relevant parties during his visit to Benue, including youth organizations, political, religious, and traditional leaders, in an effort to find long-term solutions to the conflict.
“The President’s visit is intended to evaluate directly the ongoing crisis that has resulted in many fatalities and substantial damage,” Onanuga continued.
In the most recent round of attacks in Benue, estimates indicate that at least 200 people were killed; however, State Governor Hyacinth Alia put the death toll at 59.

President Tinubu has already sent the Inspector General of Police, the National Security Adviser, the chiefs of intelligence services, the Senate and House Defense Committee Chairmen, and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation to Benue State in advance of the visit.
During the visit, the president is anticipated to meet with all interested parties at a town hall.
In the past, President Tinubu has urged the leaders and citizens of Benue State to embrace peace, love, and understanding while denouncing the state’s continuous violence. He offered the families of the victims and everyone else who has lost something because of the tragedy his sincerest condolences.
President Tinubu’s itinerary, which was made public over the weekend, called for him to travel to Kaduna State on Wednesday in order to officially launch a number of state government projects. Onanuga clarified, “The official visit will now take place on Thursday, June 19, 2025.
