BREAKING: Rivers: Ibas Hands Over to Fubara, Delivers Farewell Broadcast

Sim Fubara, the state’s reinstated governor, has formally taken over as Rivers State’s sole administrator from Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas.

Ibas called on the people of the state to back Fubara as he returns to his responsibilities as state leader in his farewell state-wide broadcast.

President Bola Tinubu had suspended Fubara six months earlier while imposing an emergency rule in Rivers State.

The president reinstated Fubara and lifted the emergency rule yesterday.

“My dear citizens of Rivers State, it is with humility in my spirit and gratitude in my heart that I address you today for the last time as administrator of our beloved State,” Ibas stated in his broadcast.

“I was given this grave duty of leading Rivers State through a remarkable period in its history six months ago by Tinubu.

I firmly believe that the mandate has been fulfilled today thanks to God’s grace and our combined efforts.

“Law and order has returned, elections have been held for local administrations, and people-elected chairmen are currently in power.

A valid physical foundation for government has been established with the passage of the state budget by the National Assembly and the reconstitution of statute boards and commissions, which are now carrying out their mandates. These are significant advancements that are universally recognized and demonstrate the tenacity of those who are committed to preventing their condition from becoming paralyzed.

One of this season’s lasting lessons is that unbridled power can destroy institutions, and unbridled rivalry is a clear threat to democracy.

“I look back on this assignment with great gratitude because I have encountered exceptional men and women who are committed to our state and meticulous in their work throughout this state bureaucracy. I have profited from the astute direction and advice of leaders who always spoke the truth.

Since leadership and followership are shared responsibilities, I confidently and respectfully return the reins of power to Sim Fubara and implore all Rivers residents to fully support him.

“A vision cannot be realized and flourish without the active support of citizens, regardless of how capable and clear it may be. This marks the end of another chapter in my life that has been dedicated to serving at sea, in diplomacy, and now in government.
