Breaking: SDP in Crisis: National Chairman Gabam, Auditor, Youth Leader Suspended

The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has declared that Shehu Gabam, the Party’s National Chairman, and two NWC members, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, the National Youth Leader, and Nnadi Clarkson, the National Auditor, will be suspended immediately.
Party members were suspended due to accusations of serious financial wrongdoing, embezzlement, misappropriation, and diversion of party assets, according to a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Araba Rufus Aiyenigba, on Tuesday, June 25, 2025. The suspension of the National Chairman and other involved NWC members is meant to allow for a comprehensive inquiry, according to Aiyenigba.

As per the party’s Constitution, Sadiq Umar Abubakar, the Deputy National Chairman (North), has taken over as Acting National Chairman in the interim, according to the SDP chieftain.
All pertinent agencies, including the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), have been informed of these officers’ suspension, Aiyenigba continued.

“The decision followed resolutions made by members of the National Working Committee (NWC), where an overwhelming amount of evidence was presented that connected the suspended officials to a number of unauthorized financial transactions, personal enrichment schemes, and the transfer of funds from the party’s accounts without the NWC’s approval,” the statement reads.

As required of all political parties, the National Chairman sent an unauthorized Financial Statement to INEC, which is when this incident first became apparent.

Also, the newspapers published a synopsis of the bogus account. Following its discovery of this, the NWC decided to notify law authorities of the bogus anomalies.

The suspension of the National Chairman and two NWC members implicated in the egregious financial misconduct will also serve as a reminder to the public that the Party, which is widely regarded by Nigerians as a disciplined party and a legitimate alternative political platform for national redemption, has zero tolerance for corruption and official abuse. At all times, we as a political party must maintain our integrity.

A panel of interim investigators has been established to examine all financial documents and suggest additional disciplinary or legal measures.

“The diverted monies total hundreds of millions of naira, which includes other party account funds as well as donations and resources realized from the sale of nomination forms in the general elections of 2023.

The suspension of Uchechukwu Ogbonna Chukwuma, Nze Nnadi Clarkson, and Alhaji Shehu Musa Gabam is effective immediately.
