BREAKING: SDP Suspends Abejide, Four Others for Anti-Party Conduct

The Kogi State Working Committee, SWC, of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, has suspended Honourable Leke Abejide, a member representing Yagba Federal Constituency and previous Gubernatorial candidate for the Party, as well as his Deputy, Dr. Idris Omede, and three other party members in Kogi.

In a press conference conducted on Monday in Lokoja, the party’s Secretary, John Adaji Udale, stated that the SWC members made the decision after extensive deliberation over the consistent and purposeful acts and activities of some members and party leaders who are at odds with the party.

The Secretary stated that after reviewing their activities, particularly in recent times, particularly as demonstrated in the Harris Hotel Abuja, where some members flagrantly usurped the power of the party’s leadership and engaged in anti-party activities, SWC was compelled to take necessary action against the underlisted members in order to uphold the integrity of the party’s Constitution.

Those suspended alongside Hon. Leke Abejide include Dr. Idris Omede, a previous Deputy Governorship candidate, Hon Johnson Tayo, Lukman Usman Adedayo, and Olabode Kayode.
Adaji stated that in light of their disloyalty to the party and anti-party activities, as well as acts of insubordination committed in violation of the provisions of the Constitution, the party hereby suspends them in accordance with Article 6 Sections 1, 2, and 4, Article 22 Sections 1, 2, 6, 8, 9, and 10, and Article 32, the oath of office schedule of the great party, ADC, as applicable.

“The above-mentioned individuals are suspended effective today, August 4, 2025, as unanimously approved and confirmed by the State Working Committee (SEC), which convened today, Monday, August 4, 2025, in Lokoja, Kogi State.

“Having reviewed their activities by the party leadership and their failure to honour the invitation extended to them in accordance with the stipulated law of our party since 2023, after the last governorship election, and their perpetual breach of the party Constitution, most notably Hon Leke Joseph Abejide and his running mate Hon Dr Idris Omede, as well as other state party officials mentioned above.

“This suspension has immediate effect.

However, he stated that the suspended members will come before the national working committee for a fair hearing, as follows:

Date: Monday, August 11, 2025.
Time: 12 noon
Venue: ADC Global Campus National Secretariat, No. 4 Oyo Street, Area 2, FCT Abuja.
Meanwhile, the party’s State Working Committee overwhelmingly voted to support the leadership of its State Chairman, Hon. Kingsley Temitope Ogga, and Secretary, John Adaji Udale.
Recall that the SDP has been fraught with controversy since its acceptance by the coalition group.
