[Breaking] Tragedy at OAU: Dental Student Commits Suicide Following Exam Results Release
Shortly after exam results were announced, a dental student at Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) apparently took his own life.
In a statement signed by its president, Adebayo Idris, the OAU Dental Students’ Association (IFUDSA) confirmed the death and called the occurrence a tragic loss.
According to reports, the association said that many students might be in shock as a result of the tragedy and encouraged them to support one another.
The statement further underlined IFUDSA’s commitment to enhancing student welfare and mental health support.
“With great sorrow and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of one of our colleagues in the Faculty of Dentistry,” the statement said. We have heard the heartbreaking news that he took his own life shortly after the release of examination results.

“This loss serves as a devastating reminder of the silent struggles that many students endure, in addition to marking the passing of a bright young mind. As a group, we are inconsolable and offer our deepest sympathies to his friends, family, classmates, and everyone else who knew him.
“We recognize that many people will be in shock by this tragedy, with difficult-to-process feelings and questions.
“All of our faculty members are encouraged to connect with one another, provide support, and seek expert assistance when necessary. No one should ever feel isolated in their difficulties since mental health is equally as vital as physical health.
“In order to prevent such tragedies in the future, we also reaffirm our commitment to advocating for improved student welfare and mental health support within the association.”
