The All Progressives Congress, or APC, has been the subject of rumors that Muhammadu Buhari, the immediate former president of Nigeria, has reacted to them.

The clarification was provided by Buhari in a statement signed by Garba Shehu, his spokesperson, on Thursday.

Part of the text stated: “Former President Muhammadu Buhari has reiterated, time and again, that he is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) @OfficialAPCNg and would like to be addressed as a loyal member of the party, without mentioning any specific person, cast of characters, issues, principles, or ideals currently being discussed by Party leaders at various levels.

In order to make it clear that he would never abandon the Party that granted him two terms in office, he says he would do all in his power to make it more well known.

As an APC member, I prefer to be referred to as such. I will make every effort to make the celebration more popular.

Before quitting the APC, Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna state, admitted earlier in the day that he conferred with Buhari.

Later on, El-Rufai defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
