The clarification was contained in a press statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the ministry, Boriowo Folasade, on June 16, 2026.

The statement said the ministry was responding to a publication that suggested that the NEMIS education data platform had been hacked.

The platform was never hacked, breached or subject to any form of cyberattack at any time, the ministry said, adding that the integrity, confidentiality and availability of data on the system remain fully intact.

“The Ministry would like to state categorically that the report is incorrect and misleading. The NEMIS platform was never hacked, breached or subjected to any cyberattack at any time. The integrity, confidentiality and availability of data on the platform remain fully intact,” the statement read.

“The temporary warning message some users saw was caused by a Secure Sockets Layer, SSL, certificate configuration issue at the hosting level that affected secure access to the platform,” the ministry said.

The issue was technical in nature and did not involve unauthorised access to the system, data loss, data alteration or exposure of sensitive information, the statement said.

The ministry said its technical team, in cooperation with the hosting service provider, quickly fixed the problem and restored normal operations.

It said that browser security warnings and SSL certificate alerts shouldn’t be taken at face value as a sign of a cyberattack or data breach.

The ministry said the Nigeria Education Data Infrastructure was the Federal Government’s framework to strengthen education data governance, integration and accessibility across the sector.

“NEMIS remains a critical digital platform for the collection, management and utilization of education data, while the Federal Ministry of Education is still implementing security measures, system monitoring and periodic assessments to protect the platform,” the statement further said.

“The Ministry thus calls on media organizations and members of the public not to transmit unverified information that could cause unnecessary alarm and erode public confidence in the digital platforms of the government,” the statement continued.

The ministry advised members of the public and stakeholders to disregard reports that the NEMIS platform had been compromised, claiming such reports were unfounded.

According to reports, the Board’s Public Communication Advisor, Fabian Benjamin, made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday.

According to Benjamin, applicants who participated in the mop-up exam can now view their results using the channels authorized by the Board for result-checking.

He claims that when the mop-up exercise was successfully completed, the results were made public.

“Candidates who took the test can check their results through the Board’s established result-checking channels,” he stated.

Benjamin continued by saying that the Board will now go on to the next phase of the admissions process, which would start with the ranking of applicants.

“The Board will start ranking the candidates after the mop-up process is successfully completed and the findings are made public.

“After that, it is anticipated that results printing for admission purposes will start before the weekend,” he stated.

Additionally, the Board thanked candidates and stakeholders for their cooperation and patience during the process.

According to Benjamin, the mop-up exam’s flawless execution demonstrated the Board’s dedication to making sure impacted candidates had an equal chance to finish the test.

The mop-up exercise took place on June 13, 2026, a Saturday.

For candidates who were biometrically validated for the main UTME but were unable to take the test because of issues noted at some centers, it was their last chance.

During the main exam session, the impacted applicants reportedly experienced technical difficulties, biometric problems, or other disruptions.

The primary 2026 UTME took place from April 16 to April 25.

Affected candidates are anticipated to examine their scores when the mop-up results are released and wait for the Board to take additional admission-related actions.

It was gathered that the examination is being conducted by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

The development has raised concern among parents, school administrators and education stakeholders especially as similar incidents were recorded last year when some candidates reportedly wrote examinations close to midnight.

Checks by Vanguard across some centres in Lagos especially on Lagos Island and the Lekki axis revealed that the delays became more visible this week, according to Vanguard.

Physics Papers 2 and 1 on Monday between 2 pm and 5 pm are said not to have started on time.

Some candidates were reported to have written the second paper at about 8 p.m. On General Mathematics students also faced major delays on Wednesday.

The essay paper, which was set from 9:30 am to noon, and the objective paper, which was set from 3 pm to 4:30 pm, were said to have been completed around 10 pm.

‘Delays Have Psychological Effects on Candidates’
A school principal, who spoke to Vanguard anonymously, said he was disappointed over the recurring disruptions.

“Why are we doing this again after last year? Besides the security issues in the country, these delays psychologically affect candidates. Imagine you are preparing for an examination slated for noon and you eventually write it at 7 p.m. or later,” the principal said.

He said many stakeholders had expected WAEC to have fixed the problem after last year’s experience.

A parent in Lekki said the delays were affecting the welfare of the students and raising concerns about examination management.

“My child got home about 10 p.m. on Wednesday. We thought lessons would have been learned from last year’s experience but the same issues are happening again,” said the parent.

WAEC Official Confirms Problems
A WAEC official who was not authorised to speak publicly, confirmed the council was aware of the challenges.

“Yeah, we’re aware of a few hiccups that have come up unexpectedly. ‘We are doing everything we can to solve the problems, and hopefully things will be back to normal soon,’ the official said.

As at the time of filing this report, WAEC was yet to issue an official public statement on the delays.

In an interview with TheCable, ASUU President Prof. Christopher Piwuna issued the warning, stating that the union demands full payment of wages, including all agreed-upon allowances, by the end of the month.

Piwuna confirmed that, contrary to popular belief, the union did not issue a four-day ultimatum.

He claimed that ASUU just cited the remaining days of March as a fair time frame for the government to abide by the terms of the agreement.

He pointed out that before taking any industrial action, the union adheres to established protocols.

The president of ASUU clarified that while certain salary changes had been reported by academics since January, the agreement’s implementation was yet unfinished.

He claimed that payments to federal institutions had not yet properly reflected a number of the agreement’s provisions.

He claims that the gaps especially impact visiting and sabbatical lecturers, many of whom are not fully compensated because of financial limitations at host universities.

Piwuna further revealed that important components that were supposed to be included in salaries, including the Earned Academic Allowances, had not been paid in full.

The union is demanding complete adherence to the December 2025 deal with the Federal Government.

The deal includes increased welfare benefits for academic workers, an improved compensation structure, and a 40% increase in allowances.

Piwuna also attributed the financial difficulties facing universities on the national budget’s passage delays.

In advance of the federal elections in 2027, he charged that the administration was turning its focus to political activity.

He declared, “We are sick of waiting. The full implementation of the 2025 agreement is in our own best interests.”

The head of ASUU stated that in addition to salaries, the agreement calls for the creation of a National Research Council, better benchmarks for education spending, and a N30 billion stabilization fund that will be distributed over three years to help universities with their financial deficiencies.

He bemoaned the poor progress made on these promises, though.

He claims that there is little proof that the government is taking decisive action to achieve predetermined goals, such as gradually raising education spending to 25% of the national budget.

Piwuna cautioned that if the government does not carry out the deal completely, ASUU will not think twice about taking action.

“The union will respond in accordance with its established procedures if the government fails to ensure full payment of salaries and implementation of the agreement by the end of March,” he declared.

On Thursday, the union established a deadline of four days. According to ASUU President Christopher Piwuna, the union will take drastic action that could result in the closure of public colleges nationwide if nothing is done within that time frame.

Piwuna said that the government must start paying the new salary right away while speaking at Sa’adu Zungur University in Bauchi State.

“We have given the federal government four days from today to start paying the newly approved salary structure. The union will take harsh action if you don’t cooperate,” he stated.

He emphasized that the union demands swift action and cautioned that failure to comply will result in a forceful reaction.

A few months after ASUU and the federal government came to a new deal in January, this warning was sent.

The agreement was meant to address long-standing problems and put an end to the frequent strikes that have plagued Nigeria’s higher education sector for many years.

A new pay structure intended to enhance the welfare of professors and solve issues related to the 2009 agreement between ASUU and the government, which was never completely implemented, is a crucial component of the accord.

The exam authority said in a statement on Monday, February 16 that applicants can view their digital certificates after confirming their results online.

How to View and Print WAEC Certificates and Results
Before obtaining digital certificates, WAEC recommended candidates to check their performance on its result portal.

Before going to the Digital Certificate platform at www.waec.org to access released digital certificate copies, candidates can verify their status by visiting www.waecdirect.org.

“To print hard copy certificates, candidates must apply online via the WAEC Certificate Request Portal, e-Certman. The statement said, “All candidates who took the exams are encouraged to carefully review their results and take the appropriate actions as soon as possible, including obtaining certificates and completing the necessary applications online.”

According to the council, there were 69,604 applicants for the test, which is 1.8% more than the 68,342 that were registered in 2024.

According to sources, 65,752 of these candidates took the test at 370 locations around the country.

235 candidates with special needs, such as those who are blind, deaf, or have hearing impairments, took part.

According to WAEC, out of the 65,752 applicants that took the test, 32,005 were men (48.68%) and 33,747 were women (51.32%).

Additionally, it stated that 61,943 candidates, or 94.21 percent, had their results fully processed and made public, while 3,809 candidates, or 5.79 percent, still had certain subjects processed because of mistakes that could be linked to them.

However, the council reassured the impacted candidates that work was being done to finish the processes.

33,989 candidates, or 51.69 percent, received credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English language and mathematics, according to performance records that were made public.

Furthermore, 27,727 candidates, or 42.17 percent, received credit or above in at least five disciplines, including mathematics and English language.

Of this total, 14,311 candidates, or 51.61 percent, were female, and 13,416 candidates, or 48.39 percent, were male.

1,899 Findings Denied Due to Malpractice
Additionally, WAEC said that 1,899 students’ results—or 2.89 percent of all candidates who took the test—were withheld due to suspected exam misconduct.

According to the council, investigations were still in progress and would be submitted to the relevant committee for decision-making.

It further said that the impacted candidates would be informed personally of the committee’s choices.

Dr. Tunji Alausa, the Minister of Education, revealed this on Monday in a formal statement and directive sent to federal university vice-chancellors.

This most recent step comes after months of discussions to prevent more strikes and improve conditions in the nation’s public tertiary institutions culminated in the signing of the updated agreement on January 14, 2026.

“By authorizing the 40% increase in the consolidated academic allowance (CAA) for ASUU members, which will take effect on January 1, 2026, the Federal Government has fulfilled its obligation under the agreement,” Alausa said.

Some federal universities have already started making wage changes to reflect the increase in allowances, and others are anticipated to do the same, the Minister indicated.

Vice-chancellors nationwide have now been officially instructed to incorporate the raise into their payroll systems in order to guarantee that qualified academic employees get the increased compensation as soon as possible.

To guarantee consistent implementation across the country, we are working. Alausa continued, “All VCs have been informed and are required to cooperate immediately.

The Consolidated Academic Tools Allowance (CATA), which is non-taxable and already included in the federal budget for 2026, is another necessary program that the Minister emphasized must be implemented in addition to the CAA.

He claims that the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission (NSIWC) has also issued a circular about the allowance, which has been handled via the required statutory channels.

“The timely implementation of both the CAA and CATA will improve teaching, research, and learning outcomes across Nigerian universities, strengthen the academic environment, and increase staff morale,” Alausa said.

The Education Minister reaffirmed the administration’s resolve to uphold agreements made with education sector stakeholders, emphasizing that the action is consistent with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

According to Alausa, “transparency, industrial harmony, and quantifiable improvements in the quality of higher education are our main priorities.”

Since ASUU had repeatedly blamed inadequate financing and unfulfilled agreements for its repeated strikes, the adoption of the updated allowances represents a major step in resolving long-standing complaints within the university system.

The government anticipates that the actions will boost academic productivity in all of the country’s postsecondary institutions in addition to promoting industrial harmony.

Speaking as the special guest of honor at the founding of Minaret University in Ikirun and the investiture of Prof. Abdullah Abdur-Rahman, the institution’s first vice chairman, the governor made this statement yesterday.

According to Adeleke, Osun State is continuing to build on the legacy of the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo, who ensured an engaged populace prepared to oppose oppression, impunity, and lawlessness.

The governor praised the institution’s founder, the Athemadiyya Muslim community, and stated: “Osun State will continue to advance in scholarship and good governance with the Minaret and other upcoming private institutions as well as both existing old colleges and universities.” The state will continue to be proud both domestically and abroad thanks to our sons and girls. Osun State will never regress because the clock of progress will always be on our side.

Through its free education policy, the late Bola Ige administration increased the first republic’s mileage. In the new Osun State, that heritage was expanded upon to ensure an engaged populace prepared and equipped to oppose oppression, impunity, and lawlessness.

An educated public is impervious to deception; they are aware of the realities of governing. They have facts based on their confirmed assessment, therefore they are not swayed by fake news. They hate anti-people government leaders; they love good leaders. The informed populace evaluates their leaders every day; they can distinguish between those who are liars and those who are actually working for the government.

The university was founded at a time when Nigeria is facing significant social, economic, and ethical issues, according to Azeez Alatoye, the chancellor of Minaret University, who also stated that the university is well-positioned to address these issues through high-quality instruction, pertinent research, innovation, and community involvement.

Data science, information technology, computer science, cyber security, accounting, economics, business administration, marketing, logistics, and supply chain management are among the programs that the university has launched, according to Alatoye.

He asserts that Minaret University was founded as a fortress of excellence, grounded in scholarship, discipline, moral rectitude, and service to humanity—values that the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jama’at is well-known for around the world.

Universities have a more important role now than ever before as our country struggles with serious social, economic, and moral issues. The location of Minaret University is ideal for

Address these issues by means of innovative education, pertinent research, community involvement, and excellent instruction. While maintaining a keen awareness of local and national development concerns, we are dedicated to following international best practices.

The chancellor asked the university’s founding students to embrace discipline, strive for greatness, and influence the institution’s culture.

“You are stewards of history, our pioneer kids. You have the honorable duty of establishing guidelines and molding this illustrious institution’s culture. Adhere to the principles that Minaret University was established on, embrace discipline, and strive for excellence,” Alatoye continued.

“I envision a university that is entrepreneurial, inclusive, and globally competitive,” said Prof. Abdullah Abdur-Rahman, the institution’s vice chancellor, who spoke following his investiture. He said the goal is to make the university a world-class tertiary institution for the intellectual and manpower development of human resources for sustainable socio-economic development regionally, nationally, and internationally.

The VC reiterated his dedication to guiding Minaret University toward excellence while urging collaboration among the administration, faculty, students, and other stakeholders.

“I am aware that no one person can decide whether a university succeeds or fails. We are prepared to do everything in our power to elevate Minaret University to an illustrious level via collaboration, transparent administration, and democratic government. All hands must be on deck, and the administration, employees, students, and other stakeholders must work together in harmony.

Through its National Tertiary Admissions Performance–Merit Awards (NATAP-M), the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has awarded N2.42 billion to higher education institutions in Nigeria in the last nine years.

Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, the Board’s Registrar, revealed this during a meeting with State Commissioners of Education in Lagos.

During his presentation, Oloyede clarified that the NATAP-M prize, which was created in 2018, was intended to promote merit-based, open, and equitable admissions procedures among postsecondary institutions while also encouraging rigorous adherence to national admission rules.

He noted that N125 million was given out during the awards’ inaugural year in 2018. In 2019, this climbed to N375 million, and in 2020, it reached N500 million.

He claims that during a combined award ceremony for the 2021/2022 and 2022/2023 rounds, the prize money was adjusted increased and a total of N710 million was distributed. The top-performing institution overall received N500 million during a second combined session for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 cycles, which was reorganized into sectoral prizes.

According to Prof. Oloyede, organizations have used the money for worthwhile projects including building roads, developing Computer-Based Test (CBT) centers, building hostels, improving infrastructure, and fixing facilities.

He gave instances, stating that Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria built access roads and the University of Ilorin built a hostel called the JAMB Merit Award International Hostel using award cash.

The JAMB Merit prize-Spider FM Radio Station, a medical laboratory, and the renovation of Kaduna Polytechnic’s administration building—all dubbed in honor of the prize—were established using the award funds.

Other recipients include the Federal University in Wukari, which used its funds to build access roads and infrastructure, and the Ogun State Institute of Technology in Igbesa, which built a CBT center worth millions of naira.
