The chairman, Mr. Asue Ighodalo, has resigned, and Nigerian Breweries Plc has announced changes to the makeup of its board of directors.
Mr. Uaboi Agbebaku, the company secretary, notified the Nigerian Exchange Ltd. of this on Friday in Lagos.
Agbebaku stated that Ighodalo notified the organization of his intention to step down and volunteer for public service.
According to appropriate corporate governance protocol, he announced that on December 31, 2023, Ighodalo would step down as chairman and from the board.
Agbebaku cited Ighodalo as stating that he made the decision with conflicted feelings, having to make a difficult sacrifice in order to give his all to the new cause.
With deep sadness, I must declare that, as of December 31, 2023, I will no longer be serving as Chairman of the Board of Nigerian Breweries Plc.

“After careful consideration, I have chosen to volunteer to serve our great nation in the public sector.
He declared, “It fills me with pride to have been a part of such a strong organization that is well-positioned to meet the opportunities and challenges in Nigeria’s dynamic business environment.”
Agbebaku additionally declared that, until a permanent chairman is appointed, Sijbe Hiemstra, the longest-serving director, will serve as the company’s temporary chairman, taking effect on January 1, 2024.
According to what he said, Hiemstra will lead the board’s operations and supervise the selection of a permanent chairman during the interim.
“After her tenure, we also announce that Ndidi Nwuneli has completed her term as an independent non-executive director of the firm.
In addition, the board announces that Stella Ojekwe-Onyejeli has been appointed as a non-executive director to take over for a vacancy on the board, beginning January 1, 2023.
Ojekwe-Onyejeli is a risk manager with years of expertise who joins the board. She has a track record of success in the financial services sector and is knowledgeable about enterprise risk management, internal auditing, business planning, and analytical abilities.
He remarked, “She presently serves on the boards of Rand Merchant Bank and Coronation Insurance Plc, among others.”
