As Climate change continues to threaten the ecosystem, a Non Governmental Organisation, New Dawn for the elderly Foundation, (NDF) has called for deliberate promotion of regenerative agriculture, as well as biodiversity conservation.
It added that such could be achieved through intensive reforestation, tree planting and integrated farming system.
The Executive Director of the group, Mrs Patience Chat Bature made the call at the 18th National Council on Environment exhibition held at Awawa community, Abuja themed: “Tackling the Triple Planetary Crisis: Climate change, Biodiversity Loss, and Pollution for Sustainable Development.”
The project executed under the United Nations Development Programme – Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (UNDP GEF-SGP) had NDF as one of its’ grantees.
Mrs Bature, in a statement on Thursday, January 1, 2026 said in attempt to bring about climate solutions, the group has begun massive tree-planting campaigns to restore lost canopy cover and sequester carbon in communities.
She further stated that their innovation on Moringa Organic Fertilizer was to promote biodiversity even as she highlighted the importance of utilizing the nutrient-rich properties of the Moringa tree to create organic fertilizers that heal the soil without the toxic runoff associated with chemicals.
She added, “We have introduced biodiversity-centric farming, where crops, trees, and livestock coexist in a symbiotic cycle, thereby shifting away from extractive practices toward regenerative agriculture.
Speaking on the exhibition which featured policy makers, environmentalists, and industry leaders; Bature said the group demonstrated how discarded agricultural husks and stalks formerly treated as waste or burned openly are being compressed into high-energy briquettes.
She noted that these briquettes provide a clean-burning alternative to traditional charcoal, directly tackling the issue of deforestation while reducing indoor air pollution for rural households.
