Maj-Gen Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working in concert with other security organisations to reestablish peace and security throughout Nigeria.
At a news conference conducted on Tuesday in Abuja as part of the events commemorating the Nigerian Army Day Celebration (NADCEL) 2023, Gen. Lagbaja provided the assurance.
“Sound Administration as a Panacea for Effective Military Operations” is the subject of NADCEL 2023. The commemoration for this year is slated for 1–6 July 2023 to honour the accomplishments of the Nigerian Army.
According to Gen. Lagbaja, the NADCEL 2023 would also highlight the Army’s operational endeavours as well as its transformational advancements in innovation, R&D, civil-military interactions, and technical development.
He claims that in addition to showcasing the Army’s strengths, the event also aims to portray it as a tool for fostering national harmony and growth.
He reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to working in concert with other security agencies and sister services to address the problem of insecurity plaguing the nation.
It is important to recognise the long-standing relationship you have with the Nigerian Army, which has helped to improve its operations recently. The Nigerian Army will, therefore, put the interests of the country ahead of any personal benefit or consideration and work diligently in coordination with sister services and security agencies to carry out its assigned duties professionally.
“I urge you to partner with us to restore peace and security across the length and breadth of our beloved nation.”
The COAS revealed that the Nigerian Army has evolved over 160 years, and has gone through different phases of growth and development.
He expressed delight of being privileged to be the Chief of Army Staff at a time when the Nigerian Army is celebrating its 160th year.
The Army Chief disclosed that this year’s celebration would also showcase the Army’s operational activities as well as its transformational strides in innovation, research and development, civil-military relations, and technological advancement.
According to him, the celebration is also aimed at projecting the Army as an instrument of national unity and development as well as highlighting its capabilities.
