Cooking Gas Sale Banned in Abia Community

To avoid possible fatalities and disasters, the Ebem Ohafia village in the Ohafia Local Government Area of Abia State has declared a ban on the selling of cooking gas (LPG) in its marketplace.
Ebem Ujurueze Palace, Ekeleugo Ebem, released a statement formalizing the decision, which was understood to have been decided during an emergency meeting of the Council of Chiefs and Elders.
The restriction was described as an absolute step intended to address mounting safety concerns in a communiqué signed by Ezie Ukoha Kalu Ukoha, the paramount monarch of Ebem Ohafia, and other community leaders.
The community leaders denounced a number of social vices, such as drug abuse, gangsterism, and cultism, in addition to the cooking gas prohibition.

Since these actions were judged intolerable, the community’s authorities have made them illegal with immediate effect.

The leaders asked guardians and parents to closely monitor their wards and children. Additionally, they ordered landlords who had homes being utilized for these illegal operations to either evict the violators or face disciplinary action.

The statement said, “Anyone found in unlawful possession of arms will be turned over to law enforcement.”

The leaders further tightened security by giving all junk dealers in the area a two-week notice to cease operations. Strict disciplinary action will be taken for noncompliance.

Security investigations have linked the actions of scrap dealers and their suppliers to an increase in vandalism and property break-ins, which the leaders blamed for the ban.
