The federal government will sell 753 homes that were taken from Godwim Emefiele, according to information released by Ahmed Dangiwa, Minister of Housing and Urban Development.
According to reports, on Tuesday, the mansions that were taken from Emefiele, the former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) were turned over to the federal government.
In the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), the 753 duplexes and other flats that were taken from Emefiele are situated in the Cadastral Zone.
A transparent and accountable method would be used to complete the recovered estate and make it accessible to the Nigerian public, Dangiwa said in a statement on Tuesday night.
The selling would be carried out through an open and competitive process, the Minister promised.
The government’s endeavor to guarantee that recovered assets are not squandered but rather converted into useful infrastructure that directly benefits Nigerians is a major step forward, he said. Next, in order to guarantee the safety and fitness of all buildings and related infrastructure for occupancy, we will do a thorough integrity and structural examination. Additionally, in order to make the estate completely operational, we will finish any unfinished infrastructure, such as roads, drainage systems, and other necessary facilities.
Additionally, to guarantee architectural consistency and offer direction to potential allottees, a standardized framework for dwelling design will be created.
Lastly, a fair and open process will be used to sell the dwelling units. It will be promoted extensively and run through the Renewed Hope Portal.
“We will collaborate with the EFCC to demonstrate that combating corruption can benefit Nigerians by transforming looted assets into livable homes.”
