The Kaduna State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has affirmed the suspension of its Women Leader, Maryam Suleiman, who criticised state governor, Senator Uba Sani, over the huge debt inherited from previous administration in the state.

The party said the disclosure of the state’s debt profile was commendable and showed the governor’s commitment to transparent and inclusive governance.

The According reported that Sani had during a Town Hall Meeting, on Saturday, lamented the huge debt inherited from his predecessor, Nasir El-Rufai.

Sani had said the state is now left with a few amounts, not enough to pay salary, adding that his administration inherited a total of $587 million, N85 billion and 115 contractual liabilities from the ex-governor.

“Despite the huge debt burden of $587 million, M85 billion, and 115 Contractual Liabilities sadly inherited from the previous administration, we remain resolute in steering Kaduna State towards progress and sustainable development.

“We have conducted a thorough assessment of our situation and are sharpening our focus accordingly,” the governor had said.

In response, the APC women leader in a viral video in Hausa berated the governor over his remarks.

This earned the women leader suspension from her Badarawa/Malali ward.

However, the state APC, in a statement by its Publicity Secretary, Salisu Wusono, on Tuesday in Kaduna, affirmed the indefinite suspension.

The ruling party commended what it called the governor’s open and inclusive leadership style, evident in the diverse representations at the Town Hall meeting.

“The event provided a platform for discussing the state’s challenges, progress, and plans, reflecting the administration’s dedication to citizen engagement,” the party stated.

The party further hailed Sani’s recent initiatives aimed at alleviating economic hardship and fostering progress in Kaduna State.
