Following a recent wave of defections from the party, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), said that Nigerians and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) are now engaged in a political battle ahead of the 2027 election.
According to reports, Abdullahi made a statement on Wednesday while answering questions on the “Prime Time” program on Arise Television.
He emphasized that the PDP will not be deterred from its determination to reconstruct the nation, characterizing the party defections as acts motivated by selfish interests and avarice.
Abdullahi insisted that the governors elected on the PDP platform had no legitimate reason to leave the party, citing the resignation of Duoye Diri, the governor of Bayelsa State.
“It’s not about PDP and APC anymore as we move towards 2027; it’s now APC against Nigerians,” he stated.
“Those who are departing are acting out of pure greed, avarice, and selfishness because, as far as I and Nigerians are aware, there isn’t a strong enough reason for a governor to want to leave the party after serving out his second term, like in Bayelsa.
As far as the PDP is concerned, it is a good way to get rid of nasty garbage. We will emerge more united and more equipped to free this nation from what we perceive to be an army of occupation posing as a democratic government if we can eliminate these factors prior to our convention next month.
Nigerians have endured a tremendous deal over the past ten years, particularly in the last two years, the PDP spokesperson added, bemoaning the country’s situation under the APC government.
