During a pivotal PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Abuja on Sunday, Nyesom Wike, the former governor of Rivers State and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), unexpectedly showed up. This was a dramatic turn of events within the PDP.
He had not attended such a gathering in months, according to sources, as tensions and defections inside the opposition party were on the rise.
Since Wike is a key member of the breakaway G5 faction and has remained loyal to the APC-led federal government, his attendance is noteworthy.

Because of his affiliation with the ruling party, there are rumors that he may be defectionist, raising doubts about his commitment to the PDP.

As the general elections of 2027 draw near, Wike’s Sunday sitting with his current and past colleagues raised the possibility of a détente or a reassessment of his political approach.
Several past state chief executives who had previously served under the party’s platform, as well as six current PDP governors, attended the meeting, which was presided over by Bala Mohammed, the governor of Bauchi State. Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Ahmadu Fintiri (Adamawa), Peter Mbah (Enugu), Dauda Lawal (Zamfara), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo) were among the governors who attended the meeting.

Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno, who has also been rumored to be leaning toward the APC, was conspicuously absent.

By 9:23 PM, Wike had reached the location, and his G5 allies, former governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Samuel Ortom (Benue), had already seated themselves with other interested parties.

Despite the past rifts and differences that had created a schism within the PDP, his attendance at the meeting is interpreted as an indication of a potential coordinated return to discussion within the party.
