Deji Adeyanju Urges Atiku to Step Aside Ahead of 2027 Presidential Race

Prominent Nigerian lawyer and political commentator, Deji Adeyanju, has called on former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to forgo any intentions of contesting in the 2027 presidential elections.

Adeyanju, who is also legal counsel to social media influencer VeryDarkMan, made the statement via a post on the social platform X, where he stressed the need for a generational shift in Nigeria’s political leadership. He argued that the time had come for older political figures like Atiku to allow younger leaders to take the mantle.

“Atiku should rest,” Adeyanju wrote. “Whatever he forgot in Aso Rock, they should help him collect it and send it to him. He should be supporting a younger candidate by now — even if it’s a younger northerner, that’s fine, but not Atiku.”

His remarks have intensified the national conversation around leadership renewal and succession planning, particularly as the 2027 elections draw closer. Though Atiku has not formally declared any intention to run, his recent political activities have continued to fuel speculation.

Adeyanju’s comments echo a rising sentiment among political observers and civil society advocates who believe that Nigeria must embrace a new generation of leaders with fresh ideas and renewed energy.

This development adds another layer to the evolving debate on age, leadership, and political legacy in Nigeria’s democratic journey.
