The Delta State Command has ordered the immediate detention of an Inspector of Police, identified Ebri Ubi, for alleged murder in Asaba.

This was confirmed in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Command Spokesman, DSP Bright Edafe, noting that one Onyeka Ibe was reportedly shot dead earlier in the day at about 9:30am by Ubi, who was said to be on Stop and Search duty along Ugbolu-Illah Road, Oshimili North Local Government Area.

According to the statement, “The Commissioner of Police, CP Ari Muhammed Ali, on receipt of the sad news immediately ordered the arrest and detention of the errant police officer and directed that his transfer to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Asaba where he has further ordered for a thorough and speedy investigation.

The CP noted that the Force, being a disciplined organization, will not condone such cruel action by any officer, assuring that Ubi will be subjected to internal disciplinary measures, including criminal prosecution.

He, therefore appealed to members of the public to remain calm and law abiding, assuring them justice will not just be done but will be seen to have been done.

Also reacting to the incident, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, said “Its quite unfortunate to record yet another careless killing of a young man, Onyi, in Asaba (Delta) today by a policeman. This is not good news at all. I hate to read about unwarranted killings.

However, I wish to commend the CP Delta for taking a bold step of arresting and commencing the immediate trial of the culprit. In another development, i feel sad and condemn the killing of Insp Kunle in Lagos by okada riders. Both incidences are unfortunate, criminal, and uncalled for.

He further said, “Those who were responsible for the inhuman and criminal acts will surely be caused to face the full wrath of the law. We need to inculcate the spirit of togetherness, love, and unity, amongst ourselves in this country.

We dont value human lives anymore, and it’s worrisome. We serve God, yet we disobey His commandments (thou shall not kill). May God forgive us and guide us aright.
