Delta wins 20th National Sports Festival, Edo finishes second

Delta State has won enough medals to finish as the overall winner of the Edo 2020 National Sports Festival ahead of Wednesday’s closing ceremony.

By late Tuesday night, Delta State was ahead of host Edo State by more than 20 gold medals, with only a handful of events left to be concluded on Wednesday.

Delta had a total of 329 medals, made up of 139 gold, 98 silver and 92 bronze.

In second place on Tuesday day night was Edo State with 309 medals overall: 118 gold, 100 silver and 91 bronze.

The neighbours are far ahead of the rest of the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Bayelsa State in third place have fewer than half of Edo’s medals haul, with 50 gold, 49 silver and 55 bronze (154 medals in total).

Rivers State completes a South South top four, placing fourth with 28 gold, 30 silver and 51 bronze medals.

The top non-South South state is Oyo with 27 gold, 21 silver and 33 bronze, followed by Lagos with 24 gold, 30 silver and 46 bronze medals.

Akwa Ibom, Ogun, Kano and Imo make up the rest of the top 10 medal-winning states.

Every state won at least one medal each, Benue and Taraba staying at the bottom of the table with one bronze apiece. I
