The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) has been advised by Hon. Dennis Idahosa, the deputy governor of Edo State, to do in-depth study and use the results of their scientific studies to improve public health.
Additionally, he encouraged them to start a vaccine production business in the state.
After hosting the Edo State Chapter of AMLSN on behalf of Governor Monday Okpebholo, the deputy governor issued the call in a statement signed by his chief press secretary, Friday Aghedo.
Idahosa claims that as of right now, Nigeria as a whole lacks a vaccine manufacturing sector or corporation.
I find that concerning. This is the country’s lifeblood. I believe it’s time for us to step up and take action that hasn’t been taken by other states in this nation. He decided to let Edo be the novice.
As he thanked the laboratory scientists for their efforts and medical interventions, which he claimed had improved the state’s public health sector delivery system, he also expressed gratitude to them for their courtesy visit to his office at the Edo State Government House.
Idahosa said, citing Governor Okpebholo’s five-point SHINE Agenda and campaign pledge, “Health comes in second after security.” We are giving health a lot of attention. Edo State is going to be pleased with our plans for the health sector.
Idahosa promised the scientists that he would collaborate closely with “the think tanks in the health sector based on raised areas of needs” and that the government would “look at the best way to proffer solution to some of these challenges.” The group was assured of government interventions aimed at relieving their stress based on raised areas of needs.
Dr. Ekhaguere Ehigie, the chairman of the Edo State AMLSN Chapter, took time to draw attention to problems that beset laboratory practice in Nigeria even as he earlier congratulated the Edo State Government on its triumphs in the elections and the court.
In order to improve disease diagnosis, precise laboratory results, and public health monitoring and surveillance, he promoted the establishment of contemporary molecular laboratories and the application of nanotechnology.
