The Edo State Government has disbanded the media team attached to the Deputy Governor’s Office, Philip Shaibu.

In a statement issued on Monday by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Chris Nehikhare, the government directed the deputy governor to request media coverage of his office’s activities from now on.

The statement reads, “The Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to now request media coverage of his office’s activities from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.”

“This directive came in response to an ugly and unfortunate incident that occurred during the colloquium held to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Midwest Referendum celebration held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists claiming to be the deputy governor’s media crew attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.”

“This act was contrary to the accredited protocol that had been established for media coverage of the event,” it continued.

“The orchestrated and stage-managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable,” Nehikhare added.
