A renewed clash between two confraternity groups in University of Benin has resulted to the death of eight persons in the state.
The deadly confrontation started a week ago when a 200-level social science student, known as Moses Adeshina, was allegedly gunned down at an event in campus known as “Jeans Carnival” organized by faculty of social sciences.
The incident had resulted to the suspension of all social activities by the management to curtail reprisal.
It was reported that two other persons were attacked at Wire and Siluko road on Wednesday during the burial of Moses Adeshina popularly known as “Aficionado.
It was also gathered while one of the alleged victim lost his life on the spot, the other sustained major injuries.
Two others were reportedly killed at Isior area of Benin and Osasogie area of Ugbowo later in the evening.
Three other persons allegedly died at Adolor, Uwasota and another in Gani Fawehinmi layout Isinoro close to new Benin on Sunday.
In a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwanbuzor, confirmed that it was reported that one person was killed resulting from cult connected clash on Wednesday.
The police operatives attached to Oba market police station reported the murder of a young man and evacuated two other bodies in different locations.
Several arrest has been made in connection to the series of crime while thorough investigation is ongoing to bring all culprit to book.
The Edo state Commissioner of Police, Danmallam Muhammed has charged the tactical team of police operatives on peace and oder in the state .
He called on the general public to provide useful information to police in the fight against crime.
