Olufemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of Lagos State, asserted that “public pundits are merely talking about an already won election,” and that they “were not expressing the truth” on the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System.
Hamzat spoke in place of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Monday at the Nigerian Guild of Editors’ Lateef Jakande Annual Memorial Lecture.
Hamzat discussed the post-election consequences and the Independent National Electoral Commission’s use of BVAS.
The deputy governor pointed out that ballots, rather than the BVAS system, were used for voting, and he added that there was no need for the dispute surrounding the use of BVAS to transmit election results.
The inaugural edition of the yearly lecture to remember the memory of the late governor of Lagos State, Lateef Jakande, took place at the Sheraton Hotel in Ikeja, Lagos.
“Lateef Jakande: The Man, His Journalism, His Politics” was the theme of the programme.
