Governor Alex Otti is allegedly misusing local government funding, according to former Abia State Commissioner for Information and Strategy Eze Chikamnayo.
In an interview with Arise Television, Chikamnayo claimed that the governor has impeded the growth of the local government, making it impossible for it to function efficiently.
“Unfortunately, in Abia, what we have today is that Alex Otti has mopped up the entire funds going to the local governments,” he said. He has ensured that the development at the grassroots level is fully anchored. Additionally, he has made it hard for municipal governments to function and survive.
Additionally, he denied allegations that Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives,
He added that Benjamin Kalu, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, had no political disagreements with the governor and had merely asked for responsibility.
“Honorable Benjamin Kalu and our beloved Governor Alex Otti have no personal issues.” Chikamnayo stated, “But all we are saying, all I am saying, all Ben Kalu is saying, and every member of the Abia community, APC is saying, Governor Alex Otti, practice what you preach.”
He emphasized that “transparency and accountability” are in Abia’s best interests, pointing out that Kalu’s request was warranted given the state’s financial resources.
Transparency and accountability are what are best for Abia. Furthermore, we are aware that a significant amount of money has been sent to all of the states—not only Abia—as requested by Hon. Benjamin Kalu. Furthermore, we are aware of President Tinubu’s outstanding performance. He has accomplished what Napoleon was unable do. Resources have been released by him. And we are aware that much more is expected of the governors as a result of the resources President Tinubu has provided to the states.
Chikamnayo contended that concrete development results, rather than rhetoric, should be used to evaluate good government. “On the basis of slogans alone, you cannot conclude that a governor is performing effectively. The only way to determine whether a governor is performing exceptionally well is to compare the resources at their disposal with the deliverables they are able to present to the public. Therefore, every individual in the country, not only in Abia, has the right to ask questions when the resources are not balanced with the outputs.
