Ex-Minister Warns: Tinubu Risks Re-Election Loss If Shettima Is Dropped

Adebayo Shittu, the former minister of communications, has cautioned that President Bola Tinubu’s chances of winning reelection could be harmed if Kashim Shettima is removed as his vice presidential nominee in the 2027 presidential election.

In an interview with AIT on Wednesday, Shittu revealed this, emphasizing that the vice president is doing a great job and that no one on the winning team has to be changed.

He said that changing the former governor of Borno State shouldn’t be motivated by the much-discussed Muslim-Muslim ticket.

He insisted that Shettima was chosen on the basis of his qualifications as a highly smart vice president.

I’m not sure what he has done to cause folks to begin to suspect that he would behave differently.

Shettima doesn’t deserve any pre-verification to stay on Tinubu’s team, in my opinion. I believe we need to exercise extreme caution if such recommendations come from any sources.

Naturally, there will be a lot of interruptions, and the prospect of a second Tinubu presidency will be jeopardized. The victorious team has to go on. Someone who has done nothing wrong is not punished.

“I can assure you that all those, particularly the Christians who were unhappy about it, have not lost anything as a result of it,” he said in response to the question of whether the Muslim-Muslim ticket was the likely cause of those advocating for his change.

As a Muslim from Yoruba territory and a very staunch supporter of the APC, I can tell you that more Christians in the South have received excellent postings than Muslims.

Because it has worked so well, I don’t understand why anyone would want to upset the status quo.

He cautioned the APC not to take any opposition group for granted, citing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a potential challenge to the ruling party.

Since these individuals are Nigerians, politicians, and human beings, we must treat every political group with the utmost seriousness.

We are also in a free environment. freedom to act and freedom to associate. Therefore, I don’t think any coming together is undervalued.

“Because we, as APC, do have cause to come together at this stage,” he continued.

As you remember, we were successful as APC mostly due to two elements. The PDP’s level of corruption as a government was the first thing that stood out.

Second, the previous government’s inadequate performance. Therefore, every administration needs to be responsive and respond to opponents’ reactions in a suitable manner.
