Adams Oshiomhole seems to have withered the unfavourable political storm which threatened his position as the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) with the emergence of all the party’s preferred candidates in the June 11 National Assembly leadership elections.
APC swept across both legislative houses like a tsunami. Senator Ahmed Lawan emerged Senate President, Rt Hon Femi Gbajabiamila as the Speaker of the House of Representatives and Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege as Deputy Senate President and Hon Idris Wase as the Deputy Speaker.
TheNigerian News gathered that some anti-Oshiomhole elements in the ruling party surreptitiously plotted to capitalise on the expected failure of the ex-Edo State governor’s led National Working Committee (NWC) in producing an all APC presiding officer to reintroduce the campaign for his removal.
A source who did not want his name public disclosed to the political correspondent of TheNigerian News that plans were already underway for the anti Oshiomhole forces within the ruling party to explore a possible failure of the party’s preferred candidates to emerge as presiding officers to demand for the ex-NLC boss ouster on the basis of incompetence and absence of the nitty-gritty to govern the merger party.
The source also revealed that it was the last straw expected to break the camel’s back, which in this case is Oshiomhole. The plot was for everyone to lay low until the National Assembly elections as the emergence of other interests with the hope of a possible emergence of a PDP member in the leadership elections. This they believed would present a potent campaign against Oshiomhole and will require little or no efforts to force him out of the party for apparent failure.
Recall that TheNigerian News had previously reported a grand plot being orchestrated by Okorocha and some top APC top politicians who were at a political standoff with Oshiomhole to oust him.
Recall also that the national chairman of APC North, Senator Lawal Shuabu also called for the resignation of Oshiomhole.
The cry started gaining momentum with the judgement of the Supreme Court which sacked all the 36 APC elected politicians in the state on the ground that APC had not conducted valid primaries in the state.
A member of the house of reps who spoke to TheNigerian News on the condition of anonymity said the campaign against Oshiomhole has been, however, laid to rest with the emergence of the preferred candidates of the party in the recently conducted NASS leadership elections.
In his words, “the issue of Oshiomhole leaving the party as national chairman is in the past now. You are a journalist, you should be aware that all our candidates in the National Assembly leadership elections emerged victorious. That has consolidated the national chairman’s grip on the party. The question of his competence no longer arise. He has silenced his political detractors.”
