Fatal Crash in Kano Leaves 20 Athletes Dead

A tragic traffic accident at Dakatsalle Bridge in Kano State’s Kura Local Government Area has resulted in the confirmed deaths of at least 20 athletes from the Kano State contingent.
It has been reported that the athletes were returning from the recently finished National Sports Festival in Abeokuta, Ogun State, when a bus carrying 30 of them fell off a bridge, causing a tragic loss of life.
The chairman of the Kano State Sports Commission, Umar Fagge, verified the tragic event by saying, “As I am talking to you now, we have counted 19 dead bodies.”

He mentioned that multiple others had injuries of differing severity and were being hurried to the hospital for urgent treatment.

Ado Salisu, who previously held the position of Vice President in the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), also confirmed the occurrence of the incident, mentioning that victims were being taken to Kura General Hospital for medical attention.

In the process of confirming the accident, Abdullahi Labaran, who serves as the Public Relations Officer for the Kano Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), stated: “We just received the report of the accident, so I cannot confirm the exact number of casualties at the moment.”

The tragic incident has reverberated through the sports community and the entire nation, leading to increasing demands for enhanced safety measures for athletes and public transportation systems.
