Federal Government declares Monday and Tuesday, January 3rd, as public holidays
To commemorate Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year’s Day, the Federal Government has declared Monday, Tuesday, and Monday, January 3, 2022, as public holidays.
This was stated by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, Dr Shuaib Belgore, in an Abuja statement on Wednesday.
Rauf Aregbesola, the Minister of Interior, who made the announcement on behalf of the Federal Government, congratulated Christians and all Nigerians at home and abroad.
Christians, according to Aregbesola, should practice Christ’s doctrines, which include but are not limited to faith, hope, and love.
“We must model our lives after Jesus Christ’s in terms of humility, service, compassion, patience, peace, and righteousness, which His birth symbolizes.”
“This will be the most accurate portrayal of Christ and the best way to commemorate his birth,” he said.
He did, however, emphasize the importance of peace and security for economic development and prosperity.
As a result, the minister urged Christians and Nigerians to make the most of the festive season by praying for the total abolition of the country’s insecurity.

With the emergence of the Omicron variant, Aregbesola warned Nigerians not to be lulled into a false sense of security about the COVID-19 pandemic, but rather to recognize that it was increasingly assuming a very dangerous and harmful dimension.
“This necessitates everyone’s deliberate responsibility and discipline,” the minister stated.
He also urged everyone to strictly follow and observe all non-pharmaceutical protocols and guidelines, such as the use of facemasks.
Hand washing with soap and water, hand sanitizer, and avoiding large groups are all recommended.
Before, during, and after the Yuletide, Aregbesola urged people to report any respiratory illness they noticed in themselves or others to medical authorities.
The minister stated that the celebration required spartan discipline in order to prevent the virus from spreading throughout our communities and the country.
“Celebrate the festival in a moderate manner, without large groups, and follow all medical authorities’ protocols.”
“Make it a point of personal responsibility to stop the virus from spreading.”
The minister also stated that the federal government had implemented effective security measures to protect people and property.
He also expected Nigerians to support security agencies’ efforts by providing them with useful information that would help them perform their duties.
Aregbesola, on the other hand, urged all citizens to stay focused and expressed optimism that 2022 will be a better year for everyone.
He wished all Christians a joyous Christmas, as well as all Nigerians a peaceful and prosperous New Year.
