The Federal Government has announced plans to review the merger of federal technical colleges and science schools in the country with a bid to reverse the policy.

Speaking at a one-day stakeholders’ meeting to address the challenges facing technical colleges in the country, the Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman expressed dissatisfaction with the previous decision to merge technical with science colleges.

Mamman emphasised that the merger undermined the original purpose for establishing the technical colleges across the country.

He maintained that technical colleges should be dedicated solely to students with keen interest in technical education.

Prof Mamman further stressed that students willing to study science programmes should go to regular colleges, noting it was a mistake to have merged both schools.

He also decried the low enrolment of students in the technical colleges where they would be taught skills to transform the country.
