The latest OMO auction results indicate strong demand for short-term government securities, with investors submitting bids worth N1.952 trillion against a total offer size of N400 billion.

The auction comes just a week after the apex bank conducted a much larger OMO sale on May 21, when it allotted N3.47 trillion against subscriptions of N3.48 trillion, bringing total OMO liquidity mop-ups within eight days to N5.42 trillion.

The latest auction details reflect sustained demand for short-term government securities even as the CBN continues its aggressive liquidity management operations to stabilise inflationary pressures and support exchange rate stability.

The auction on May 29 was for two OMO instruments, with the 102-day and 11-day bills seeing good investor participation across maturities.

The total subscription amounted to N1.952 trillion against an offer of N400 billion and total allotment stood at N1.945 trillion indicating the massive subscription by market participants.

For the 102-day bill, investors subscribed N1.727 trillion against an offer of N200 billion, while the CBN allotted N1.725 trillion at a stop rate of 20.37 percent.

The 11-day bill saw subscriptions of N225 billion against N200 billion on offer, with N220 billion allotted at a stop rate of 21.80 percent.

The auction did not include repayments, pointing to a pure liquidity absorption exercise by the apex bank.

The May 29 auction was smaller than the May 21 exercise but investor appetite remained strong across tenors.

The CBN had on May 21 offered N700 billion across three tenors but received subscriptions of N3.477 trillion. Total allotments for the May 21 auction stood at N3.47 trillion.

In aggregate, the two auctions gulped N5.42 trillion in just over a week, reaffirming the Central Bank of Nigeria pledge to tighten liquidity conditions as inflation and foreign exchange management efforts persist.

Analysts at Cowry Asset Management Limited expect large maturities of about N2.72 trillion in OMO bills and N631.46 billion in Treasury Bills in the first week of June.

Cowry Asset Management Limited, in its weekly market outlook, projected total liquidity inflows of N3.35 trillion for the week, driven by maturing instruments across the short-term segment.

The analysts said the large maturity profile could provide strong demand at upcoming fixed income auctions if the apex bank continues with its liquidity management strategy.

The persistent mop-up of liquidity is consistent with the CBN’s broader monetary policy tightening stance to manage inflation expectations and curb excess cash in the banking system, which has remained elevated due to maturing instruments and fiscal-related inflows.

Market analysts say such operations help to anchor short-term interest rates, and improve transmission of monetary policy decisions across the financial system.

But they also point out that aggressive liquidity sterilisation may keep funding costs elevated for banks and corporate borrowers in the near term.

However, the high return on OMO bills relative to other short-term investment opportunities in the local market has kept the demand for the instrument high among investors.

Cowry Asset Management Limited said the expected large maturity wave in early June could provide a temporary boost to system liquidity as the CBN maintains its sterilisation efforts.

Nairametrics reports that continued participation in OMO auctions shows growing investor preference for risk-free government instruments in the face of uncertain macroeconomic conditions and ongoing inflationary pressures.

The interaction of large maturities and aggressive mop-up operations is likely to influence liquidity conditions in the Nigerian financial system in the weeks ahead, with potential implications for short-term interest rates and the stability of the currency.

Market operators in the financial system are expected to monitor the Treasury Bill auctions and CBN open market interventions as liquidity dynamics evolve, especially as seasonal fiscal flows, debt maturities and monetary policy adjustments continue to interact in shaping market sentiment across fixed income and foreign exchange segments. There is heightened vigilance from investors and policymakers alike as market conditions remain fluid and data dependent environment.410

Idris made this known despite efforts to improve the country’s public health emergency response system.

Idris said this on Monday, June 1, 2026 during an appearance on Arise Television on the issue of concerns of the resurgence of Ebola cases in parts of Africa including Uganda and Democratic Republic of Congo.

“A recent assessment conducted by the NCDC revealed that although Nigeria has made substantial progress in disease surveillance and response, there are still several gaps, especially at the country’s entry points and border communities.

“Our latest level of assessment puts us at about 59 per cent, you can never be 100 per cent prepared but the essence is that we continue to improve our readiness because situations keep changing,” Idris said.

Idris admitted that Nigeria is not fully prepared for an Ebola outbreak but said authorities are working to enhance response capacity in all states of the federation.

“We have dispatched teams to assess isolation centres, emergency operation centres, laboratories and other critical infrastructure that will be required to contain any possible outbreak,” he explained.

He also pointed to Nigeria’s porous borders as a major challenge, warning that unregulated movement through unofficial entry points could heighten the risk of disease importation.

The NCDC boss however said he was confident that the country could respond effectively if an outbreak happens, citing lessons learnt from the successful containment of Ebola in 2014.

It was reports that Ike contested for the AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency seat in the FCT on the platform of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC) but lost.

Olayinka recently came under fire after he posted details allegedly obtained from an administrative webpage of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

On Saturday, Olayinka said on 𝕏 that Ike was previously a registered voter in Imo State before transferring his registration to the FCT on May 15.

He attached screenshots to the post, which many Nigerians believed to contain information from INEC’s administrative login portal.

The details allegedly contained Ike’s application number, registration centre, Voter Identification Number, profile picture, name and date of application.

Ike described the action as shocking and unacceptable while reacting on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Tuesday.

“It is quite shocking, extreme, and it is the height of political rascality for a government officer to access a citizen’s information from the INEC cyber.

“It tells you a lot, shows how much impunity we have flying around there and people have access to the things they shouldn’t be having access to, and that’s quite deplorable, and I see that as a huge insult and slap on every political party and every Nigerian.

He is telling every Nigerian that whoever you are, I can pull your information from anywhere and I can do what I want and that rascality needs to be stopped.

The actor said he was ready to deal with Olayinka for exposing his private details.

“I’m ready to take him on, actions ready,” Ike said.

“He has no right to take advantage of my privacy and insult Nigerians the way he did. If he has been doing in the past, this should be the last time he does it.”

Why I Ran In FCT
Ike also gave reasons for his choice to contest for the House of Representatives seat in Abuja instead of his home state.

He said, “I really wanted to run in my state, but a couple of people came to me; it was like a clarion call. People came to me and said, ‘sir, you need to do this now, we need you in Abuja.

And I’m like, you know, I’m already trying to run in my state, but they insisted, and the surge was high, and I considered it, seeing the relevant issues that they brought on board, and I said, okay, fine, let’s see how we can build Abuja.

“A municipal area needs to be properly guarded and looked into, so I decided to relocate to Abuja.”

This was in response to Taminu Turaki-led faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, naming Jonathan as its presidential candidate ahead of the next year’s general elections.

There is no evidence to suggest that Jonathan collected, filled or submitted any nomination papers in connection with a 2027 presidential bid, former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has said.

Certain is one thing.” The fact is, I don’t believe former President Jonathan is power-hungry or power-drunk.

“If he wanted power he would not have relinquished power in 2015. I do not think President Jonathan is desperate to go back to Aso Rock because obviously he has not forgotten anything there.

“I know very well that Jonathan is where he is today because of many sacrifices, because of commitment, because of discipline, because of resilience and above all because of humility.

“But the sad thing is that some people, who have pretended with dangerous ambition to stay in the airspace of public conversation about 2027, have started dragging an innocent gentleman’s name, who, for reasons too, has not said anything about it.

“What is clear is that nobody collects a nomination form and that is not signed by him or her and such instances are ceremonial.

“There are no pictorial evidences that indicate that any of these documents were done by the former president,” he said.

He made the claim on Arise Television on Tuesday.

Oborevwori stated that they had earlier seen Omo-Agege exit, adding that he never consulted anyone.

Omo-Agege had recently left the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) after losing the senatorial primary election.

Reacting, the governor said: “We knew about his exit, and that was why he was not serious in the context of the primaries, because he never consulted anybody, he never consulted me, he never called leaders.

“APC is a big party, so his exit is not a threat to us.

“President Bola Tinubu is my biggest project and we of Delta are solidly behind him. The delta people have been deceived before, but not anymore.

“I can categorically tell you that no Delta person will vote against Tinubu. So we are not worried about anyone leaving our party.”

Oborevwori vows Peter Obi will not win Delta State in 2027 election Meanwhile, Oborevwori has vowed that the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi will not win Delta State in the 2027 election.

The governor was quoted as saying this during an appearance on Arise Television Tuesday.

He stated that Obi would not win the state again during the 2023 election.

Oborevwori said Obi’s performance in 2023 was as a result of the support of the Christian community and non-indigenes especially members of the Igbo community.

But he said his administration had enhanced its relationship with the Igbo community in the state and was confident that they would support the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the coming elections.

“It’s not that the Igbo community voted against me in the governorship election, they have been working with my administration in the interest of the state,” he said.

“The religious leaders who supported my political move to APC prayed for the success of the decision and will continue to support the party in future elections, Oborevwori also said.

He said that the factors that aided Obi’s victory in Delta in the 2023 presidential election have been addressed, adding that he does not expect a repeat in 2027.

He said: “First and foremost, the Igbo community in Delta State that did that in 2023 they never did it during my election and we are on the same page.

“I’ve told them vote party this time. Because of the love they have for me, they will not vote candidates, they will vote party.

“I have that confidence they will vote APC.

There are two factors that happen the other time, the Christian community and the Igbo, the non indigenous, but I’ve been able to manage them. The Igbo and I are collaborating for the benefit of the state.

“I also believe that what happened that time will not happen again.

“This is because the religious leaders, before I move into the APC, we notified them to pray for us. So you can’t swear and pray. They have prayed.

“So when the time comes for election, I will still go back to them, say, “fathers of faith, when I moved the other time, you prayed for us. “Pray again that we shall be victorious, that we may succeed.” That’s all there is to it.

Eno said Tinubu has made funds available to state governors to undertake projects.

Speaking in an interview on Arise Television, the governor said Tinubu has stabilized the naira against the dollar.

He said: “First of all, Tinubu has made funding available for us to be able to do all of the projects we have done, 1,300 kilometers of roads and to be able to put up 458 compassionate homes to be able to support 12, 000 elders to be able to built hospitals in all the 31 local government areas, to be able to modern schools that are solar powered.

“Look at the tax reforms and the benefits to the people, look at the dollars that is now stable from when he took over, look at our foreign reserves, you will know that there is enough reasons for Akwa Ibom and Nigerians to return him to finish the job that he has started.”

Eno, when asked if he would work for Tinubu’s re-election in 2027, said, “We trust God and with God on our side, I’m an adventure believer in the God factor, Akwa Ibom is up for Tinubu and the APC.

“We are on the ground and we just finished the primaries, I had 392,000 and the president had close to 400,000.

“All the senators are APC except the governor, 24 out of the 26 members of the House of Assembly are APC, 30 out of the 31 Chairmen of the local governments are APC, local government councillors and maybe very few in one local government are APC.

So these are the people in the field and on the ground working. So you think that people are going to sit down and allow one party to overrun us?

I respect all the people but the more the merrier so people can have the choice. I am on the ground, I am not afraid of anything.

The church in a statement released Tuesday through its official public relations X handle said Adeboye has been consistently encouraging RCCG members to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVC) and vote according to their conscience.

The church says Adeboye’s message to members has always been about civic responsibility, not partisan loyalty.

“Members of the RCCG are from across the political divide and should be able to exercise their democratic rights, and also be responsible for their actions,” the statement said.

RCCG also denied reports that Adeboye cancelled a planned protest, saying the report was false.

The church said the cleric was only passing across a directive from the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) on a change in a three-day prayer programme.

It added that the revised plan was to hold the grand finale at a central venue and organise a rally around the location.

The church further rejected claims that Adeboye has remained silent on national issues.

It said the cleric had in recent times spoken extensively on insecurity, corruption, hardship, elections, governance and the need for righteous leadership.

“However, the statement noted that Adeboye usually handles such matters by way of prayers, moral guidance and counsel, and not by partisan confrontation.

The church said Adeboye and the RCCG should not be judged by false narratives and wrong reports.

It appealed to the public to seek information about the General Overseer and the mission through the official channels of communication and the church’s authorized representatives.

RCCG also urged bloggers, commentators, media organisations and content publishers to verify information before going to the press.

The church said the public has a right to the truth and that Adeboye and the RCCG have a right to fair and accurate reporting.

I want to see it to believe it. Check your facts before you publish. The statement read, “Truth is important.”

In a viral video, Haruna Garba, who is well-known on social media as Garus Gololo, accused the Senate President of disrespecting the North. He claimed that Akpabio said that “with or without the North, President Bola Tinubu would win the 2027 presidential election.”

But the group, operating under the umbrella of the Isong Annang Ethnic Forum in Akwa Ibom State, in a statement issued in Uyo on Monday, defended the Senate President, saying it had investigated the claims and found the allegations to be false and orchestrated to tarnish his image.

The statement which was signed by the National President of the group, Prince Mendy Archibong; National Secretary, Elder Mfon Ebong; and National Women Leader, Hon. Emilia Udom, called on the originator of the allegation to provide proof.

“As a forum we have looked into the claims made by Gololo which he maliciously attributed to our son. We found nothing to prove our son guilty. “It is therefore expedient to state that senator Akpabio did not say anything to undermine the support and role the people of Northern Nigeria would play in the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in the year 2027.” the statement said.

The group described Akpabio as a respected nationalist who understands the importance of building unity with Nigerians regardless of tribe, faith or region.

The group said, “Distinguished Senator Akpabio is a renowned nationalist with a political leadership pedigree that reflects his deep respect for the cultural and religious diversities in our country.

“He understands the expediencies of cultivating a warm, homogeneous bond of brotherhood with all Nigerians from every tribe, faith and region, despite their distinctive heterogeneity.

“His respect for the diversities of our nation predates his tenure as President of the Senate. This is evident in major and basic lifestyle choices that our son made from when he served meritoriously as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State.”

The group urged the leadership of Arewa to ignore what it described as a campaign of calumny and also called on Northern elites to support the second-term bid of President Bola Tinubu in the interest of justice, fairness and preservation of political cooperation between the North and South.

“The forum urges respected Arewa leaders and groups to dismiss the inciteful and divisive campaign of calumny fabricated by rampaging anti-unity propagandists who seek to sow disaffection and disharmony among ethnic groups and regions in the country especially as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

“For justice, fairness and for the purpose of maintaining the long history of the shared political cooperation between the North and South, the forum calls on the Northern Nigeria elites to support President Bola Tinubu’s second term in 2027 to balance the power rotation between the North and South.”

The group reiterated its support and solidarity with Tinubu and the Senate President and pledged to remain committed to mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

“Isong Annang Ethnic Forum reiterates its unalloyed support and solidarity to President Bola Tinubu and Distinguished Senator Godswill Akpabio and pledges to remain faithfully committed to promote mutual understanding and peaceful co-existence between the Annang nation and other ethnic groups and regions in Nigeria,” the statement added.
