FG enrolls seven million Nigerians in cash transfer programme

Minister of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management and Social Development, Sadiya Umar Farouq, says the Federal Government has enrolled 7, 068, 629 vulnerable Nigerians in the Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme.

Farouq, who disclosed this in a statement in Abuja on Tuesday, noted that the FG released monthly stipend of N5,000 to the poorest and most vulnerable Nigerian households through the conditional cash transfer programme.

The programme is under the National Social Investment Programme (NSIP).

She said the programme operated in 33 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as of December 2020.

According to her, the conditional cash transfer is expected to cover all states of the federation by March.

The minister said: “A total of 1,414,983 beneficiaries with 7,068,629 individual household member beneficiaries have been enrolled, covering 487 local government areas, 4,716 wards and 37,628 communities.

“The conditional cash transfer programme has a clearly defined implementation structure with an electronic base beneficiary enrolment system that focuses on the Poor and Vulnerable Households (PVHHs) culled from the National Social Register.”
