The Federal Government has ordered an immediate halt to ongoing construction on the Sagamu-Iperu Road in Ogun State, citing concerns over substandard work. The directive was issued by the Federal Ministry of Works, which also gave the contractor a seven-day ultimatum to correct the identified defects.

According to the ministry, the decision follows a site inspection that revealed the stone base of the road was poorly executed and failed to meet required standards. The contractor has been instructed to remove the defective sections and reconstruct them using approved materials and methods.

“The contractor must remove the current stone base and begin corrective work within seven days,” an official from the ministry stated, emphasizing that failure to comply could lead to contract termination and possible sanctions.

The Sagamu-Iperu Road is a critical infrastructure link in the South West region and is expected to ease traffic congestion and support economic activities in the area once completed. However, the project has faced scrutiny due to delays and rising concerns from local residents about the quality of construction.

The Federal Ministry of Works reiterated its commitment to enforcing strict compliance with engineering standards across all federal projects, warning contractors against cutting corners or compromising safety and durability.

This move reflects the ministry’s broader effort under the Renewed Hope Agenda to ensure infrastructure projects across the country are executed with professionalism and integrity.

Further updates on the contractor’s response and remediation efforts are expected within the coming week
