FG Reacts: Opposition Registers ADA: FG Dismisses Move as “Paperwork”

FG Responds as Opposition Coalition Moves to Register All Democratic Alliance (ADA)

The Federal Government has officially reacted to the Nigeria National Coalition Group’s (NNCG) application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to register a new political party, the All Democratic Alliance (ADA), ahead of the 2027 general elections. Led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex‑Kaduna State Governor Nasir El‑Rufai, the coalition submitted its dossier following a strategic meeting in Abuja, with INEC confirming receipt on Friday.

Key Details of the ADA Registration

  • Pro Tempore Leadership:

    • Chairman: Chief Akin Anderson Rickets, former NPA boss

    • Secretary: Abdullahi Musa Elayo, ex‑House of Representatives member

  • Party Identity:

    • Name & Acronym: All Democratic Alliance (ADA)

    • Slogan: “Justice for All”

    • Logo Symbolism: Party colours and maize (corn) motif

  • Legal Framework:

    • Constitution: Sections 40 & 222

    • Electoral Act: Section 75 (2022)

    • Submitted Documents: Manifesto, constitution, minutes of meeting, flag, and logo

Prominent figures said to be backing ADA include Peter Obi, Aminu Tambuwal, John Oyegun, Rauf Aregbesola, Abubakar Malami, Uche Secondus, and others—all aiming to create a “credible alternative” to the ruling party.

Federal Government Reaction

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development Festus Keyamo dismissed the coalition’s move as mere “paperwork,” calling it “psychological warfare” on Nigerians. In a post on X, he argued that a handful of individuals forming a new party does not amount to a genuine political “coalition” or “merger” akin to the APC’s 2013 realignment.
