In order to oversee the anticipated building of 8,800 new healthcare facilities spread across the nation’s 774 local government areas, the federal government has announced intentions to hire young Nigerians.
In Abuja yesterday, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, announced that the Presidential Health Fellows Program, which was recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, would conduct a mass recruitment drive for young Nigerians in all local government areas.
Pate encouraged all eligible young Nigerians to apply online at www.healthfellows.ng by January 27, 2025, at the latest.
According to the minister, a multi-screening process at the state level would be used in each local government area of the federation to choose who will be involved.
The minister added that the successful candidates chosen as fellows will be accountability officers who supervise the construction of 8,800 new primary health facilities across the country over the coming years, making sure that each facility operates with operational excellence and fiduciary integrity within their purview.
In the meantime, the National Health Fellows Program, which has formally begun and invited potential applicants to start applying, aims to improve primary healthcare delivery across the country by transforming Nigeria’s public health sector and producing the next generation of healthcare leaders.
A statement claims that this esteemed program will bring together a group of up-and-coming experts from a variety of sectors, such as the social sciences, information technology, and health and health-related fields. The chosen fellows will be exposed to best practices in Nigeria’s health sector and take part in demanding training, leadership chances, and mentoring.
“Our young people’ boundless creativity, intelligence, and patriotism are the foundation of this initiative, which gives them a once-in-a-lifetime chance to develop their leadership skills and develop significant, impacting healthcare solutions. We urge young Nigerians to become strong change agents and assume their legitimate role in determining the direction of our country’s healthcare system,” Pate said.
According to the statement, the fellowship’s main goal is to develop a group of exceptionally talented and driven health executives who can spearhead significant innovation and change in our healthcare system.
Additionally, a recently published statement described the program’s eligibility requirements.
“Applicants must have relevant experience and skills, be between the ages of 25 and 35, and hold a bachelor’s degree in the social sciences, IT, or health-related fields.”
“Candidates should also exhibit an interest in or background in primary healthcare, community projects, or health-related non-governmental organizations.”

“As the program requires a full-time commitment, among other requirements, applicants must also have strong analytical skills, entrepreneurial drive, and leadership potential. They must also not currently hold full-time or part-time employment.”
However, by January 27, 2025, interested applicants are urged to apply via the official website at www.healthfellows.ng. Interviews and eligibility verification are two of the several screening steps in the selection process, according to the statement.
