The Ogoja Local Government Central Market in Ishibori, Cross River State, is currently on fire, less than two days after the State High Court was engulfed in flames.

The National Television Authority disclosed the incident on its X (formerly Twitter) account on Tuesday night.

The NTA posted: “Ogoja Local Government Central Market, Ishibori, gutted by fire; less than two days after the State High Court was in flames. As of this moment, there is no presence of the State Fire Service to curtail the inferno.”

Traders and residents are desperately attempting to salvage their goods and belongings, as the absence of the State Fire Service hampers efforts to contain the blaze.

“This is devastating. We’ve barely recovered from the court fire, and now the market – our lifeline – is burning before our eyes,” an X user reacting to the incident wrote.

As of the time of this report, authorities have yet to release an official statement on the cause of the fire or the delay in the fire service’s response.
